Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about duct cleaning, dryer vent safety, chimney care, and AeroSeal duct sealing.
Will duct cleaning help my dryer dry faster?
Yes. Built-up lint debris in the dryer duct can obstruct proper ventilation, causing the dryer to take longer to evaporate the moisture from clothing. If left uncleaned, the dryer can stop drying altogether.
My dryer doesn’t work well. Is it even worth cleaning the duct?
All too often, homeowners get rid of their old dryers that stop working under the assumption that the dryer was simply failing due to age. In most cases, the dryer is working adequately, and a dirty duct is the main issue. Even a brand-new dryer will fail if the duct is dirty.
How do I know if I need HVAC duct cleaning?
Throats always irritated in the morning, constantly dusting surfaces, and smelling a burning smell when the heater kicks on are all obvious indicators. However, to know for sure, we recommend a fiberoptic video inspection of the HVAC system and ductwork.
What is the benefit of dryer duct cleaning?
Cleaner indoor air, allergy reduction, asthma relief, better, more restful sleep, increased HVAC system efficiency, and lengthened life of your HVAC system.
Does duct cleaning leave a mess in my home?
No mess. All cleaning activities are conducted in accordance with NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) guidelines, meaning all debris and contaminants are contained and extracted using HEPA-grade filtration.
How often should I clean my dryer duct?
It depends on duct length and the number of elbows. However, in general, dryer ducts with one or more elbows and 8 feet or more of ductwork require annual cleanings to optimize dryer efficiency and eliminate the risk of a dryer fire.
Does duct cleaning improve HVAC airflow?
In nearly all cases, the answer is yes. Cleaner ducts promote better airflow. Additionally, cleaning the internal components of the furnace, specifically the evaporator coil, can significantly improve overall airflow and system efficiency.
Will duct cleaning help with allergies and asthma?
The data is clear and abundant. All studies indicate that regularly cleaned HVAC ducts significantly impact home occupants suffering from chronic allergies and asthma.
Can dryers really catch fire?
Dryers catch fire more often than most people realize. In the US alone last year, there were over 15,000 dryer fires, accounting for 90% of all home appliance fires and causing over $35-$40 million in property damage annually.
Will duct cleaning get rid of the moldy smell in my HVAC?
A thorough HVAC duct cleaning will extract any microbial contaminants from the system. This is the technical term for mold. To ensure the mold does not return, we can tailor and execute a plan of fixes to make sure the mold issue is eliminated for the long term.
What is the black stuff blowing from my vents?
Black particulate discharge usually indicates fiberglass duct liner inside the ductwork is breaking down. In addition to cleaning, a system with this issue usually requires a coating of DP-2502 on the duct liner to eliminate further fiberglass deterioration and improve overall indoor air quality.
